You and your kid’s bikes are probably things you use often. These things can be stored with specialty racks that make it possible for you to access your bikes easily and quickly. without having them lying all over the floor. Picture how nice it would be to not have to deal with bikes flopping all over the place, or tripping on them when you try to navigate your way past them to try to get to something else. All in all, garage organizers for bikes is a wonderful idea.

Other things you use frequently that really benefits from garage organizers is sports equipment. Soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, golf clubs, roller blades, and all sorts of other things can be safely and neatly stored in bins and on hooks designed just for such things. This sure beats the normal dump-it-on-the-floor-and-run routine that most kids use. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times you ask them to put their things away, they somehow just end up all over the garage floor. If the kids know that there is a specific rack or bin for their stuff, it makes it more likely that they will use it.

Things that you use infrequently would be things like fishing gear. Garage organizers help make sense of this stuff too. Chances are you have fishing poles, reels, nets, and other fishing stuff that only gets used every once in awhile, but mostly just sits in a jumbled mess. Instead of piling all that stuff up willy-nilly in a corner of the garage somewhere, why not organize it neatly. Next time you get ready to go fishing, loading up will be a snap. Plus, you’ll save yourself the frustration of dealing with rods and reels that are a mess.

Probably my most favorite garage organizers are garage storage cabinets. These can be left on the floor on rollers, or mounted on the wall, or even situated on a table top. Many are lockable, and most have adjustable shelves. Paints, stains, sandpapers, miscellaneous hand tools, and other items that can really turn your tool boxes into jumbled messes go great in these sorts of cabinets. Like all garage organizers, these cabinets make our lives easier because the frustration of dealing with things out of place goes away. Instead, we create an environment where we can think clearly, access things we need easily, and just create a more relaxing vibe in our day to day lives.

Garage organizers come in all shapes and sizes, and I recommend them highly if you are interested in simplifying both the frequently, and infrequently, used items in your life. Do an inventory and decide to take action. Get the organizers you need and smile.

The primary sources for funding a youth softball league are the individual sign up fees, the league-wide fundraiser, corporate sponsorships, and perhaps income from concession sales. However, as the cost continue to rise it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise individual fees and also to garner the corporate sponsor. Further, if the truth be known, a very large percentage of the candy sales are picked up by the player’s parents. I can’t tell you how many boxes of oversized candy bars I have purchased over the years so my daughter’s didn’t have to burden the neighbors with their sad-eyed sales pitch.

The upside, to the typical sources of funds, for a League are that they do produce a significant amount of revenue. The downside is that all of these methods of fundraisers require an inordinate amount of time and effort. Even something as simple as just collecting sign up fees requires many man-hours. Just try finding fifty corporate sponsors and see how long that takes. And the candy selling fundraiser, I can’t imagine the total number of hours spent knocking on doors.

What if there was a passive means of generating revenue for your Softball League, or any non-profit organization for that matter? What if there was something the league could spend one hour on and it generated revenue for the league from now on? It wouldn’t even matter how much money it generated as long as it generated income 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for years and years to come. I have good news for you.

Earlier this year I surveyed over 300 youth softball league web sites. There were some really great sites and then there were some that were pretty simple. Some of the sites included listing of their corporate sponsors and some did not. But NONE of the sites had advertisements provided by Google. Oh my, what a GOLDEN opportunity everyone of these leagues is missing.

Let me explain how this works. Anyone, or entity, that has a web site can apply to Google to receive advertisements placed on their web site. It takes about five minutes to read through Google’s information and to submit the application. It is absolutely free to apply and join. Once that is done, Google will review the site and approve or disapprove the application. I can’t imagine them denying any non-profit softball league.

Once approved, Google will notify the applicant via email and will provide some code for the league web master to copy and paste onto pages on the league’s site. The web master can determine the placement of the ads, as to at the top or bottom of the page, or wherever they think is best. Don’t worry, Google doesn’t put those hideous pop up banners on your site.

Once the ads are on the site, when a visitor to the site clicks on an ad, revenue is generated for both Google and for the owner of the web site, or in this case, for the Softball League. Google keeps track of all of the clicks and the associated revenue, and when that revenue reaches a certain threshold Google will direct deposit or mail a check.

Google has done an excellent job of coding their ads so that only relevant ads appear on the web pages. Since we are discussing Softball Leagues, I would suspect that the ads would primarily be softball related. As such, they won’t seem intrusive to your league membership. In fact, the league members will probably appreciate added sources of information being available to them.

It’s impossible to say how much income this fundraiser could provide for a softball league. I seriously doubt it would ever replace any of the existing sources of income for softball leagues. However, it is essentially effortless income which could ease the financial burden of playing softball.

I don’t believe this is a matter of if a non-profit organization will allow advertising on their web site, but when will they embrace it. The truth of the matter about non-profit organizations is that they have all have two primary goals. The first goal is to produce whatever it is they produce, in this case it would be producing a fun softball league. The second goal is to raise money to support goal number one.

Is accepting advertising a foreign concept to non-profit organizations? Absolutely not. The baseball team I played on growing up was the Dr. Pepper Rockets. That was over 30 years ago that my league was accepting advertising revenue. I think the only issue now is when will these softball leagues become informed about the potential revenue their web sites hold. Once the secret is out, I suspect their will be a quick movement towards web site advertisements.

As internet advertising continues to grow, and as more people become savvy of web sites, Softball Leagues and other non-profit organizations will undoubtedly come to realize the value of their sites and unlock the revenue generating potential of their virtual real estate.

Wall units - these will really catch a perspective buyers attention because they will say a lot about you being a highly organized person! These walls are designed to be highly customizable. You set up a variety of hooks, small shelves, bins and cabinets on the wall and use them for hanging garden tools, storing sports equipment, and a whole variety of other items that are typically kept in a garage. Overhead storage shelves - these are cool! Great for storing items not accessed very often. Plus, they free up the floor for other uses. Any home buyer would be excited to see one of these in a garage. Cabinets - These come in assorted sizes and configurations, but they are great for storing items while keeping them hidden behind closed doors, making your garage look even neater. There are other garage organizer items available, but any of those mentioned above is a great place to start. Plus, most are mobile, so you can take them with you to help organize your new garage from the very beginning. Clean your garage. Sweep it out really well, spray it down, perhaps even apply some concrete cleaner to remove stains. If stains are really set in, then you could consider an inexpensive garage flooring option, such as interlocking tiles or roll out mats.

These ideas can really make your garage stand apart from others. And though someone is not going to buy your house because they love your garage, it can be the thing that tips the scale in your favor. 1) Put each in its proper place.

Sadly, most of us have an annoying habit of taking one thing from a room and leaving it somewhere else where it shouldn’t be.

Books from the library find their way into the dining room. Children’s toys wind up on the kitchen floor. If you want to keep your house organized, it’s best to practice putting everything back in its proper place.  

2) Invest in solid colors.

You might not think that the color of your wallpaper or your furniture has anything to do with household organizing ideas, but you could be wrong.

Wallpaper with too heavy patterns can make even an organized room look cluttered. Whereas a solid-colored wallpaper makes it easy for you to see if anything is misplaced. The same applies to heavily patterned furniture.

3) Have a “one-place-for-all.”

Isn’t it annoying when there’s paper all over the place? One household organizing idea is to determine one place where you can put all your mail and bills.

Some stores sell colorful boxes that double as home accessories. You can buy one of those or make your own decorative box instead!

4) Arrange your books into certain groups.

These days, clothes aren’t the only things you can sort by type, size or color. If you have a lot of books, you can arrange them by topic, color, or size as well.

For simplicity’s sake, let’s say you want to organize them by colors. You could put all books with orange covers on one level of the shelf and all blue covers on another shelf. Arrange them all by height.

You might be surprised at how doing that instantly makes the whole room organized. Plus, it easily becomes the focal point and makes for a great conversation starter.

5) Get rid of unused items.

Sometimes, most of what makes up the clutter in the house are things we hardly even use anymore. Unfortunately, a lot of people find it nearly impossible to part with their previous belongings.

Take that stuffed toy collection you’ve had for 8 years as an example. You know you don’t really need them and yet you still keep them around to collect dust. One of the household organizing ideas that never fails to refresh any home is to get rid of these unused items.  You could sell them to earn some extra cash, or give them to charity and make other people happy.

You don’t need to be Betty Crocker or Superman to be able to take care of your household. These household organizing ideas are applicable to everyone.

I know that the space above most bedroom closets is a vast expanse of unused and neglected space right? You have absolutely no idea what you could possibly put there to fill it up. Yeah! And those boxes in the hall that have been there since last Christmas aren’t any big deal. They aren’t really in the way that much. Oh, and of course, the tangled piles of who knows what stored so neatly in the garage are so accessible right? Not! I’m not trying to interfere with anybody’s system of chucking, shoving, and forgetting. It’s a good system. That is, if you don’t mind the risks of not having garage organizers to keep everything ship shape.

Oh there are risks. Let’s say you get home from your ski trip with all your stuff. You’re tired and just want to get the SUV unloaded asap and get in the house where it’s warm. You drop your skis, bags and boots somewhere in the mystery pile, somehow never quite getting around to going back out and truly taking care of them. This is a problem. We all have enough stress in our lives. We don’t need the frustration of discovering our favorite tool or sports item damaged or ruined because something else scratches or otherwise damages it out of carelessness. It makes life miserable next time you go to use your stuff. Gear that is abused just doesn’t last as long or even stay in as good of condition as it could. This ends up costing you more money and frustration. Too risky for me. So, here’s a thought for your consideration: garage organizers are fun. What a revelation! Just makes me all giddy thinking about them.

You are probably thinking, “give me a break” right? Okay, here’s my deal. We all have stuff all over the place that we think we will remember where it is when we need it, and then when we do we just can’t seem to find it. I have had some experience with this cute little aspect of modern living. Four kids and two pets give me lots to keep track of. Until I discovered the power of garage organizers I would drive myself crazy looking for items I thought I would never misplace, searching for any possible square inch to put just one more thing into. This is not fun. But with garage organizers I walk around with a Cheshire cat grin on my face all day long just knowing how safe and sound all my stuff is. No more worry, no more risk, no more irritation. Just fun!

So go ahead, get yourself some garage organizers and try it out. You know, cabinets, workbenches with shelves and drawers, racks, hooks, and bins. Stuff like that. Heck, why not go all out and get a whole garage storage system. You know, those beautiful matching garage organizers that you’ve been dreaming about. Life is dreary enough. You deserve some fun!

Realistic garage organizing can only start when you first accept that you are really never going to use what you have had put away for more years than you can imagine. You have to get rid of the mushiness and move on. Once the emotions are in check, you can classify, stash away, and put to use or donate your favorite old belongings. Then it is time to take on the rest of the clutter in your garage.

• First, take everything out of its current position. That includes running automobiles, mowers, boats and any other big items from the garage.

• Second, organize everything. Put all tools in 1 place, sports equipment in another, housecleaning supplies in another, hand tools in another, and so on.

• Third, take inventory. This organizational trick will allow you to key out matching items so you can dispatch the extras or eradicate items that haven’t been utilized in many years. It will also assist as a great chart to help you control the flow of the items that you stock in your garage.

• Fourth, design the flow. The freezer and house cleaning items need to be close to the door leading into the house. Gardening instruments might store nicely next to the door leading to the back yard as will shovels and rakes. Hand tools require special storage with an organizational scheme of their own.

• Fifth, set-up the activity centers. Do you own storage shelves or are you storing things in boxes? If your money permits, organize your garage with shelves and cabinets that provide easy access to your material. If you use your garage as a shop, be sure to give yourself a bench so that you can use your tools efficiently.

• Sixth, reload. That’s right, start putting all your items away according to when, why and how frequently they are used.

Your garage organizing isn’t over until you’ve taken the broom and given the area a nice, clean sweep. Nothing appears better than tidy shelves, a glaring floor and tools hanging in their proper places.

Now you are ready for the piece de resistance. It is time to return your automobiles, those four-wheeled investments, back inside to the warmth and luxury of a well organized garage.

When you hear someone say that they are organizing their closet, usually visions of clothing piles come to mind. We get rid of the clothing piles by culling out the unused or unusable items, and organize what is left. Any left over space is exploited with shelving or containers, and we are left with a well organized easy to use space, With a pantry closet, a similar set of organization tools can be used.

First, seek out and cull any unused or unusable foods. Keep in mind that food items like dried goods in boxes have a shelf life, especially if opened. It should make sense then to keep your dry goods in an arrangement that allows for easy rotation as leftover foods go stale. Like unworn clothes, foods that were bought but never used should be culled at the same time as stale goods as well. Once you’ve completed this step with your dried goods, limit your purchases to more match what you use and you will reduce waste.

Factory sealed canned goods on the other hand have a much longer shelf life, and we can modify our efforts here. Because of their shelf life, canned goods often make up an emergency food supply. If you choose to have such a supply, stack these items toward the back of deep shelves, but keep the labels visible to avoid over-duplication or the rare but possible expiration of these items. Your frequently used items can take up the outer portion of your shelves, again using a grouping strategy with labels visible.

With both of these groups of stored foods, consider donating canned or boxed goods you know you will not eat, or consider handing them over to a neighbor or visiting family member or friend.

A third group of items considered in usual pantry items are paper goods such as paper plates and napkins, and paper towels. Kept in their own area of the pantry, it’s easy to see your stock level, and keep these products in store fresh condition. You’ll have far less chance of over-buying, and have less instances of dirty or dusty or missing paper goods when needed.

The fourth group that frequently gets stored in a pantry are items like onions, garlic, and other fresh items that do not require refrigeration. Consider aeration though, and you may wish to look at a couple hanging baskets for these goods. Air circulation will keep them usable longer, and you can quickly catch items ready to spoil.

At first, the solution in garage organizers was shelves, and then cabinets. But lets face it, many things in our garage do not fit well on shelves and cabinets. You can hang bikes solo or multiples, by their wheels or horizontally by the top tube. Some wall hooks even include a small shelf for helmets and shoes. Besides walls, there are also lift options to hang your bike from the ceiling. This is great, because anybody who has kids, has bikes! Fishing gear - Any fisherman knows, that tangled poles are nothing but a pain, so wall rod racks are a great solution to keep your line straight. Golf clubs - If you are a solo player,then you can just use a basic hook, but if you have multiple bags, then you can find garage organizers that will hold both bags plus your shoes. Ladders - You can get large hooks to hang your ladder upright, or larger units that will hang your ladder plus more horizontally. Lawn and Garden - this category includes anything from large to small garden tools, wheel barrows and hoses, and you can find garage organizers to solve any of these problems! You can get a garden tool rack that will hold multiple large tools that also includes a small shelf and basket for many of your smaller gardening items. There are also special hooks for your wheel barrow and hoses. Skis and snowboards - These are nice to store during the summer but also keep accessible for the winter. There are a variety of racks available, for one pair of skis to many pairs. Most also include hooks for poles and some also have shelves for boots. There are also some great options for snowboards to store them flat against the wall that have adjusting arms so that it also works for skateboards and wake boards. Tennis and other racquet sports - for this you can find a great system that allows you to hang your rackets and store you balls as well. Tools - many of the hooks that work for lawn and garden, also work for tools. You can also find smaller containers that can be hung and work great for nuts and bolts etc. as well as baskets for cans, rags or whatever.

So, with the modern age, find modern solutions, they are out there and these great garage organizers will allow you to not only store your toys in the garage, but also your car!

Most garages have some sort of front or side bench or combination of both. Most of those benches become a permanent home to parts, scattered tools, buckets of bolts, and a list far to long for public disclosure. Congratulations, you’ve found your valid starting point, and a goal - reclaim your bench space.

One key tip for finishing a garage organization project I use myself is to pick out the car or toy I hate to leave outside, and back it out into the driveway. Then, in the case of a bench cleaning, move EVERYTHING off and out from under the bench into the now empty place. Do you think we have sufficient motivation now? The prized toy cannot come back in till the job is done, so you better get started.

You should now have a (huge?) pile, and a new view of your workspace and storage areas (just remember, they are separate things and we will now use them that way). Once you are over the shock and surprise of that new outlet or bench grinder you rediscovered, grab a broom and pan, and anything else you need to get the bench-top and underneath clean. Do it now or it will not get done.

Now we can look at tip number two. Call it the two step. Step one is to cull out things like old batteries for recycling, scrap steel and aluminum, and that spare radiator with a hole in it. Put those things outside the garage, out of reach of the magnetic field of your bench and odd corners of your garage. They will fight you to return, but be strong. Step two is distract yourself from those newly liberated items by placing your large items to a place under the bench where they make sense. The snow-blower, mower, or tiller, and things like the shop vac are first. A bonus tip here is to put those items one deep with nothing behind them or in front of them. you should be able to move these items in and out from under the bench without moving anything else, and have a completely empty stall to return them. This gives you fewer surprises and quests, and saves time and effort when these items are needed. Repeat the two step outlined above till there are no more trash, junk, recyclables, or large to mid-size itemsleft. The pile is getting pretty small now, and you can still see a work-bench. Amazing, isn’t it?

Time for a new tip. If you are prone to being a pack-rat and collecting bolts, nuts, and brackets, now is the time to organize these as well. The hidden tips here are usefulness, and weight, and quantity. Do you really need 1 inch bolts and nuts to fix the car or mower? Put them with your scrap. Do you like emptying that five gallon bucket to find a washer? Besides weighing way too much, this time honored system is a real time waster, so sort your fasteners into coffee cans, bins, or one gallon buckets instead. All the time you are working this way, keep in mind junk versus treasure, and how long and how many steps to put your hands on say a 3/8 by 2 inch bolt and nut. When you are all done, now decide based on combined weight and space, what would be a good place to put them? If you have many bins or buckets and they are a bit heavy, you can place them in one area under your bench with nothing on top of them so you can easily see and retrieve what you need.

At this point, the end should at least be in sight. Tools, power cords, power tools, all cost money. Store them accordingly and finally make use of your pegboard and toolboxes and hooks like they should be used. If you find at this stage there are still lots of things on the floor, resist putting them on the bench, and consider more weeding out and re-organizing. Remember, if you clear this stage, your garage will be organized and efficient, and you will have your work-bench back. Really dig deep into the relocate, trash, or treasure mode though and you can get done.

Pat yourself on the back, sweep up, and pull the toy back in it’s place. But, what about the recycling stuff outside? That is up to you, the day of the week, and what recycling is available. The point is that entire pile outside can go, and should no longer find a permanent home in your garage. In fact, by using the steps above, you’ll find yourself reluctant to even let them back in your newly organized garage, so it’s up to you. Make a few bucks if you can, or else it’s trash.

The hardest parts of home garage organization are starting, culling, and finishing. This brief system above actually helps me in my battle of procrastination, and hording. Try them yourself.
